Celebrate Life’s Seasons
Service of Remembrance
One evening each fall we set aside a special time to remember those loved ones who passed away in the previous year. The Service of Remembrance includes a candle lighting ceremony, a memorial slide show, and recitation of names.
Hospice families and any community member who wishes to commemorate a life are invited to attend service and social time afterward. The Hospice staff and patient and family volunteers welcome the chance to reconnect with the families they served.
Hospice Annual Dinner
Hospice staff, volunteers, board members and the public gather the first Thursday in November to celebrate the accomplishments of the past year, and pay tribute to the year’s Hospice Heroes. The dinner is lively, full of laughter, and yes, maybe a sentimental tear of two.
Celebrity waiters take special care of their table mates in exchange for tips turned over to Hospice. And you can even get a jump start on your holiday shopping as more than fifty items are put up for bid at our silent auction.
Come with a group or come alone, you’re certain to have a good time surrounded by some of the friendliest and kind-hearted people in Chenango County.
This is your opportunity to support Hospice and purchase a plant for your home for the holidays. This follows the same plan of our Spring Plant Sale. Order directly from Hospice or order from a coordinator in your school or company. Plants are ready for pickup or delivery the first week of December.
Light Up a Life Tree Lighting
Hospice offers family and friends the chance to memorialize or honor that special someone with a beautiful ornament at the holidays. Your loved one’s name is attached to each purchased ornament and hung on the Hospice tree.
On the second Thursday evening of December, the lobby of NBT Bank in Norwich fills with folks who enjoy live holiday music. They listen to families who share their Hospice stories, and help us light the tree. Proceeds from the ornament sale help pay for the care of current and future Hospice patients.
Spring Plant Sale
Every May we have a huge plant sale. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year. We solicit individual orders from the public; plus conduct internal sales in 50+ schools and businesses throughout Chenango County. We offer 10 different plants and hanging baskets, and use a local grower that stands by the quality of his product. If you’d like to wait and select your plants, there is a Cash & Carry Sale in East Side Park in Downtown Norwich the 3rd Wednesday of May. Call for information at 334-3556.
The Dan Elwood Memorial 5K Run/Walk
Classmates of Dan Elwood put together a run/walk to raise funds for Hospice to honor their friend, who was only 44 when he died of colon cancer. This event, rain or shine, fills the General Clinton Park in Bainbridge, NY on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, the same weekend as the General Clinton Canoe Regatta.
We Honor Veterans' Motorcycle Rally
Join other motorcyclists and tour the beautiful Chenango County countryside to raise money for our "We Honor Veterans" Program. This innaugural event starts at The Vets' Home in Oxford and concludes at The American Legion Post 189 in Norwich. Bikers' and passengers' entry fee entitles them to attend the after party dinner and dance. The public is also invited to the after party in support of Hospice and our brave Veterans for a nominal fee.
The Mary Jane Prindle Memorial Golf Tournament
Golfers turn out in August for a fun day of friendship and fund-raising for Hospice. Walt Prindle, the husband of a patient who died far too young, conceived the tournament, because he and Mary Jane enjoyed the sport and Walt wanted to give back to Hospice. Teams of four head out to the links for a worthy cause, a chance to win prizes, followed by a summer picnic supper.
